Florida is a mixture of the rural South and the resort-like atmosphere of beach cities. Of course, since Florida is one of the nation's top vacation destinations, it is also a great place to pursue a culinary career.
Natural features of the state include the Everglades and fabulous sand beaches. As one of the first places to be colonized by Europeans, Florida boasts a long history of culinary experimentation and adaptation. Spaniards, Africans, Indians, Cubans, French, and many others have contributed to Floridian cuisine, each time coming up with variations on how to use local ingredients such as wild ginger and seafood. Creole influence is evident in Florida's panhandle, while some areas of Miami are absolutely Caribbean.
